Patagonia Lake State Park

Swimming, boats and a beach in the middle of the grasslands — open late on summer evenings, shut by 4:30 all winter.
A lake in country that does not look like it should have one: a beach, boat rentals, a birding trail along the creek, and the Sonoita Creek State Natural Area next door on the same ticket.
Entry is per vehicle — $20 Monday to Thursday, $25 Friday to Sunday and holidays, or $5 on foot or by bike.
The season matters more here than anywhere else in this guide. From April the gates stay open until 10pm on Friday and Saturday, which is the whole case for an evening swim; from November it is 8am to 4:30pm every day, weekends included. Both weeks are set out above.
