The adobe mission church at the heart of the Santa Cruz valley — open every day of the year but two.
A National Park Service site built around the ruins of Mission San José de Tumacácori, founded in 1691. The great adobe church, the cemetery and the mortuary chapel are still standing, roofless and unrestored, which is most of the point.
Open 9am to 5pm every day of the year except Thanksgiving and Christmas — the most dependable hours of anywhere in this guide.
Pair it with Tubac a few miles north and you have a full day without much driving.
