Your members are not a mailing list somebody else holds, and the page they find you on should not be one either. Gatherings is being built with a founding flock of organizers, and it is not finished.

Where this is aimed
Not at the organizer's monthly bill.
Plenty of event tools are already free for organizers, so winning on price would be winning nothing. Two things none of them fix are worth building for: a fee charged to the people who turn up, and a group page the group cannot take with it.

All of this works now. None of it uses a group's words yet — it was built for farms and venues, so the screens say offerings where you would say gatherings.
Every second Thursday
Set the rhythm once. Move or call off any single date from the date itself, hand out a calendar people can subscribe to, and see the week ahead at a glance.
Free places, with a limit
People claim a place at no charge, the remaining places count down, and each one gets a confirmation. Today you set up each date by hand, which is exactly the part Gatherings replaces.
Co-organizers
Anyone you invite can edit the page, at the level you choose, without sharing a password or an account.
A newsletter to the whole group
A sign-up form, a welcome that sends itself, a note to everybody at once, and the list as a spreadsheet on the free plan.

Replies for each date
Yes or no to one meeting, plus guests, a limit, a cut-off, a place handed straight back when somebody drops out, and a waiting list that moves people up on its own.
Members without accounts
A member joins from a link in an email, on the group's own domain. No Goose account, no app, no subscription, ever.
Who is coming, and who came
A list the organizers can read, download and check people in against. Today anyone signed in can see it, so it is not ready to be trusted with names.
Reminders, and word when a date moves
The day before, with the calendar attached, and a note to everybody holding a place when a date changes. Moving and cancelling already work; sending word about it does not.
